When the bacteria have penetrated deep inside a tooth, the tooth may still be saved, but a root canal procedure is probably necessary at this stage. With some of the new advances in dental technology, this procedure can be performed more efficiently and with minimal to no discomfort. A tooth which had root canal treatment may change colour or become brittle and it may require further placement of a crown.
